Welcome to Iowa 80!
On the eastern edge of the Midwest state of Iowa, not far from the Mississippi River, adjacent to the small town of Walcott, lies a place like no other: The Iowa 80 truck stop! Once the World's Largest Truck Stop, Iowa 80 was used as a "Refuge of Last Resort" for Iowans when the outbreak began. However, this setup was not to last, as the Iowa National Guard, whom had been providing defenses for the safe zone, withdrew from Iowa 80 as a part of Operation Cobalt, taking only a few FEMA and CDC officials with them. Without the National Guard, Iowa 80 quickly fell, and for the next six months afterwards, the once proud truck stop sat completely abandoned, the reanimated corpses of its former inhabitants aimlessly shambling about the premises.
However, it's now March: Six months after Operation Cobalt: Spring is descending upon what remains of Iowa, and with it comes new possibilities for the abandoned safe zone:
A group of survivors from Des Moines, led by former US Senator from Iowa Robert Fawkes, having been on the road since abandoning their previous safe haven three months ago in the dead of winter, is traveling eastbound on interstate 80 when they find the highway gridlocked, with abandoned vehicles littering both sides of the once arterial interstate highway. However, this seeming setback turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as the gridlock happens to be at exit 284, the exit at which Iowa 80 is located. Where previous groups were deterred, Fawkes saw promise in the abandoned safe zone, as Iowa 80 already had infrastructure in place to keep the dead out, and the land offered opportunity to expand into a long term, maybe even indefinite, operation.
However, Fawkes' group is not alone, as other groups have discovered Iowa 80, and some of them might want to take Iowa 80 for themselves.

A convoy of four vehicles rolled down eastbound Interstate 80. The once-major transcontinental artery was largely deserted six months after Operation Cobalt. Though that wasn't to say that it was completely deserted, as there were groups who camped near the interstate to stop and rob more unsuspecting survivors.
